UBREMEN hosted REMIT Public Talk on Governing Digital Technologies in a New Era of Global Politics

On 26 March 2026, members of the public, including students and researchers, attended a public talk hosted by the ZeMKI – Centre for Media, Communication, and Information Research (University of Bremen), as part of the REMIT project. The event took place at the “Haus der Wissenschaft” (“House of Science”) and was moderated by Dr. Dennis Redeker.

The discussion featured Professor Marianne Franklin of Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and focused on the theme “Governing Digital Technologies in a New Era of Global Politics”. The talk addressed the implications of current geopolitical developments for digital governance, as well as broader questions of normative change, stability, and the environmental sustainability of technological transformation, including developments related to artificial intelligence. The conversation further explored how shifting global political dynamics shape competing visions and possible futures of digital governance. In doing so, the event provided a platform for reflecting on evolving governance frameworks in a rapidly changing international environment. The talk featured a high degree of interactivity and engaged with the matter also through musical interludes.

The public talk formed part of a wider two-day workshop on ‘International Relations in the Digital Age’ held in Bremen and was co-hosted by the ZeMKI, the Institute of Intercultural and International Studies (InIIS), and the German Political Science Association’s International Relations section.
