Prof. Dr. Roberta N. Haar, REMIT Research’s Principal Investigator from Maastricht University, was the invited Keynote speaker at two events to members of the Maastricht regional business community this spring.
On March 27, SIM welcomed members and guests to their Spring Drink 2025—an evening dedicated to reflection, networking, and forward-thinking dialogue. SIM (Samenwerkende Industrieterreinen Maastricht) is a regional business network that represents and promotes the collective interests of companies located on industrial parks in Maastricht. Professor Haar offered timely insights from her research in the REMIT project. She gave a thirty minute presentation on “European perspectives for a secure and competitive future in Strategic Technologies.” Her talk addressed the challenges and opportunities facing entrepreneurs in a shifting geopolitical and economic landscape, sparking thoughtful questions and discussions over drinks and nibbles among the attendees.
On April 17, Prof. Haar had the privilege of speaking at the biannual meeting between the Municipality of Maastricht and the Top 30 CEOs of the city’s business community. The event focused on “Geopolitical developments and their impact on the business community.” It was hosted by the mayor of Maastricht, key alderman of the Maastricht City Council and the telecommunications company KPN, who also provided the venue and the dinner at the Maastricht KPN office. Drawing on her research within the REMIT project, Prof. Haar offered reflections on the shifting global order, the rivalry in strategic technologies and the implications of these current challenges for European businesses. Her presentation, “Insights on the EU-US relationship & The European Perspective Future Challenges (From Complacency to Action),” explored how companies can navigate global uncertainty and position themselves strategically for the future. The evening continued with a dynamic discussion moderated by Simone van Trier, where business leaders shared how international developments are shaping their operations and responses. It was an engaging and thoughtful gathering of leadership, policy, and strategy.
